Dr. Kristen Joseph received her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington
University. She completed her doctoral internship at Howard University’s Counseling Service
located in the District of Columbia. While engaged in her internship at Howard University, she
also provided forensic psychological assessments at the District of Columbia Superior Courts
Child Guidance Clinic, and Howard University Hospital’s inpatient unit. Dr. Joseph has worked in
various settings conducting psychological and neuropsychological assessments, inclusive of
recognizing difficulties associated with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), emotional
functioning concerns, and academic learning disabilities and talents.

Additionally, Dr. Joseph enjoys providing therapy to clients in a myriad of clinical settings
including forensic, community mental health, public schools, and private practice. Dr. Joseph
believes in the importance of tailoring each client’s treatment to their unique needs. She places
emphasis on the importance of embracing healing-informed care (also known as
trauma-informed care) with Black and POC young adults/adults who may experience stress
related to family, life transitions, trauma, and/or self-esteem concerns. Her training accentuates
a psychodynamic lens which focuses on the belief that an individual’s present thoughts,
feelings, and behaviors are influenced by past experiences, unconscious processes, cultural
identities, and relational patterns. Empathy and engagement are the core of Dr. Joseph’s
therapeutic practices. She strives to create an open, safe, warm, and nonjudgmental space for
each client that she encounters.
