Sigrid Elston

Educational/ Professional: 

Dr. Elston is a Licensed Health Service Provider in Psychology in the State of Indiana, as well as a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Georgia. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology, Master of Education in Community Counseling, and Bachelor of Arts Degrees from The University of Georgia. She completed her postdoctoral clinical training at The Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Elston has taught graduate-level courses during her career, as well as she was in private practice for 10 years in Atlanta, Georgia, providing therapy and testing, and served as the clinical director for a behavioral health agency for 5 years. At present, Dr. Elston’s practice is located in Fishers, Indiana, while she provides supervision and consultation services for counseling centers in the Indianapolis metropolitan area.

Scope of Practice: 

Dr. Elston approaches the therapeutic process as a collaborative working relationship between the client and therapist, while appreciating the whole self, history, and current system. She is qualified to work with depression, anxiety, race-relations, and grief. Her specialization areas include the interphase of women’s medical and physical health, such as postpartum depression and anxiety, prenatal loss, fertility challenges, menopause, domestic violence, and sexual abuse.

She is a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Association of Black Psychologists, and Indiana Psychological Association.

Personal background: 

Dr. Elston is a native of Atlanta, Georgia by way of Richmond, Virginia, and New Jersey. She credits her parents’ Georgia roots for most of her upbringing, while she began living there in her early teens. Dr. Elston and her family relocated to Northwest Indiana in 2012, and she now calls Central Indiana her home as of 2015.

Hobbies: 

Dr. Elston enjoys spending time with her family, bike-riding, gardening, collecting art, listening to music, and mentoring burgeoning mental health professionals.
